SprotsGloss: Tight End

Megan Avi HeaderWell, everyone’s favorite tight end, Travis Kelce, found his true love last week as Catching Kelce ended. The 6’6” god of a man picked quite possibly the most hateful human alive, Maya. We all know that shit’s not gonna last, so the Chiefs stud will be (probably was 5 seconds after the show ended) single once more. All of you hungry hungry hunnies better brush up on his job description.

The tight end position is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades kind of job. Think of TE’s as the Ben Zobrist’s of football. They can do it all.

The tight end can both act as a receiver or a blocker (like during a running play). The TE will line up on the line of scrimmage when he’s paired with a flanker. When he’s paired with a split end, the tight end will be off the line of scrimmage.

The tight end position gets a lot of the glory on a football team since their use varies so much from play to play, they are unpredictable and harder to defend against. This is why so many TE’s are household names like Travis Kelce, Rob Gronkowski, Jordan Reed, and Tyler Eifert.
