It takes a lot of anger, frustration and sadness in order to properly reflect on what it was like to be raised as a Royals fan in the 1990s and 2000s. Yet somehow, the Kansas City Royals have decided to target their slogan for the 2017 season based around some of the worst years of my baseball fan life with the new #RaisedRoyal campaign. Naturally, the internet has won my heart over once again with their reactions to this somewhat depressing trip down memory lane. As always, I am here for the memes. With that being said, let’s take a look at the options for the #RaisedRoyal campaign versus what the meme world has created.

 

Really, what could go wrong with this new slogan? I’m glad the Royals want to romanticize the years of suffering the fans went through as something to be looked back on fondly. For those of us born before 2010, I think we all remember the Royals in their true form… a team that broke your heart or drove you to drinking more than anyone thought possible.
