Football season 2017 is upon us and the University of Oklahoma team is looking at it with fresh, young eyes. Whether you’re talking about all of our new recruits, the young guys taking starting positions or even the coaches, this will be a year of new beginnings.
At the young age of 33, Lincoln Riley has taken over as the head coach at OU. This season will be led by a first-time head coach alongside veteran quarterback, Baker Mayfield. With Samaje Perine, Joe Mixon and Dede Westbrook all headed to the NFL, it will be all eyes on Mayfield this season.
Starting the season with UTEP at home the boys should come out strong. However, the following week will be a huge game played against Ohio State, in Columbus. While last year OU fans hopes and dreams were shattered, this year everyone is out for redemption. The games played in Norman this year, while still exciting, should be some easier wins. Ideally, Lincoln will pull off all home wins during his first season. Like always, Oklahoma vs. Texas is played at a neutral site, in Dallas. Bedlam this year is headed back to Oklahoma’s landfill, Stillwater. However, Oklahoma will not be playing Oklahoma State as the last game of the season like they’re used to. Instead, Bedlam has been pushed to the beginning of November in order to make room for the Big 12 Championship game.
With new changes, new players and even a new head coach, all the fans of OU can hope for is a new outcome. With Stoops still watching over, it is now the Reign of Riley.
