Tayanna Harris is a local Kansas City photographer, specializing in weddings and boudoir sessions. She reminds me of Leslie Knope, from Parks and Recreation. Tay doesn’t do anything half assed. She’s passionate and cares deeply for the work she does, the subjects she photographs, and the causes close to her heart.
Be sure to check out her website, http://boudoir.tay-daliese.com/news, to check out her stunning work, as well as an opportunity to get in front of her camera! She has very limited availabilities for her upcoming boudoir marathon.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Depends on what part of my childhood you’re asking about. But it usually went back and forth between wanting to be Tyra Banks & a teacher. Which is great because Tyra grew up to teach people how to tooch. And I grew up to be a photographer. So… Not at all the same. My whole family is a bunch of teachers. My grandparents taught for 42-43 years and my mom taught for a while. They all told me they wanted me to grow up and make money and not be as worn out as they were. Sometimes I think about teaching photo at a high school, but it’s probably not my time.
Who has inspired you most?
Maya Angelou! Holy crap, so much of my feminism spurred from her. My grandparents taught me how to read when I was three, then at the age of four I was memorizing Angelou’s poems and reciting them at retirement parties and for talent shows. As I grew older I related to her work on different levels. Now I know not to be ashamed that I dance like I’ve got diamonds at the meeting of my thighs.
What are your goals for this year?
I’ve got some business goals, which is to double the amount of weddings I booked last year, I also aim to learn how to network. I don’t think I’m bad at it necessarily, but I will admit that I am VERY bad at leaving my house. I also want to achieve a better work/life balance. Working full time for a med tech company then working full time shooting weddings, events, etc. So it’s really hard for me to spend time with friends and family like I want, but I’m working at it!
What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
I don’t even know what one of those really looks like! Haha, mostly I will read or play video games. I also watch all the tv. Which doesn’t sound possible. But it is. All. Of. It.

What qualifies someone as a “badass” and do you think of yourself as one?

I think a badass is someone who overcomes some rough shit in life but picks up and keeps going.Who is unapologetic in her womanhood and does all she can to pick people up. I’d like to think I am, but I don’t know if I’m qualified to make that call. I’ve worked really hard to make sure I never have to ask anyone for anything, and it’s something I’m super proud of. My main goal is to always be a strong, sex-positive, independent woman who can encourage people to be themselves. No matter how crass, quiet, feminine, etc.
