Kansas State made an interesting game out of the battle with Texas A&M. The one thing the Cats couldn’t stop was the hot shooting of the Aggies. Texas A&M connected 54 percent from the field, including 58.3 percent in the second half. The Aggies only led by one in the begging of the second half. But then the Aggies went on a 21-3 run. The Wildcats tried to make a comeback with the help of Wesley Iwundu and DJ Johnson. But the Wildcats fell short and lost 78-68.
This Saturday the Cats travel to Wichita, but won’t be laying Wichita State. They will play Colorado State in the first of two non-conference games between the two schools. This is the third time in five years the Wildcats have played in Wichita. The Wildcats have a tradition of playing a neutral-site game against a known opponent on the final weekend before Christmas. That formula has been good to them in recent years. They have scored late December victories over Texas A&M, Florida and Alabama in Kansas City and against Gonzaga in Wichita.
Colorado State hasn’t been too impressive on the court this season. The Rams are 6-4 with losses against some not so good teams. Their losses were against UTEP (undefeated), Long Beach State (4-4), Colorado (7-1) and Northern Colorado (3-6). Two of these teams do not have a winning record and haven’t impressed anyone this season. These losses have some their last four games they have played. The Rams wins aren’t very impressive either. If the Wildcats play like they have for the majority of the season they should be able to beat Colorado State in Wichita.
Next Tuesday December 22nd the Cats face North Dakota in Manhattan Kansas. North Dakota may be a harder opponent to beat than Colorado State even though North Dakota is 4-5. North Dakota has had losses against better teams is god preparation to face Kansas State. North Dakota’s losses have come against Wisconsin, Florida Gulf Coast, Youngstown State, Northern Iowa and North Dakota State. It will be a battle for the Cats but I think they can pull out another win. I think after this weekend and next week the Cats will be 2-0.
