The Twins? Really, Royals?!?! The Twins won their first series of the season with a season high of eight runs and fourteen hits. This game was obviously not the Royals best game of the season. You can see that by looking at the stat telling you that a Royals reliever gave up a homerun. No it wasn’t HDH, but still. Chris Young gave up a homer to Suzuki. This was the first run allowed in 23 1/3 scoreless innings by Royal relievers.
There are some positives that came out of the game on Thursday. Lo Cain hit his second homer of the season in just nine games. Last year he only hit five homers in 133 games. Another positive is Jason Frasor came in the game with the bases loaded and got a line out and then induced Kennys Vargas to tap into a 1-2-3 double play.
The Royals have called up outfielder Terrance Gore from AA Arkansas to replace the injured Alex Rios. Rios will be placed on the 15 day disabled list and will more than likely miss a month with a broken left pinky finger that he received from relief pitcher J.R. Graham on Monday. Gore is not much of a hitter, but he is the definition of speed. He made appearances in eleven games last year, stealing five bases. So far this year he has had twelve at bat appearances with three walks and two steals. Yost has decided that Paulo Orlando (when Gordon is out) and Jarrod Dyson will help replace Rios in the outfield. Lorenzo Cain will not move from center field like he did last year. Dyson will be asked to play right field, after playing just two innings in his major league career.
This weekend the Royals will have their first series with the A’s since their wildcard victory in September. It will be nice having Billy Butler back in KC, too bad he will be in that green and yellow. Make sure you go out for Buck night tonight and the gold glove ceremony. They will also be giving Butler his championship ring. I’m looking forward to being out at the K on Saturday to get the replica trophy bobble head! Sunday wraps up the series with Family Fun Day. Hope to see some people out at the K this weekend! Let me know where you will be!
